OpenAI has introduced "dots" – a new system of AI assistants capable of working autonomously and around the clock. Each "dot" represents a separate AI agent operating on its own isolated cloud computer, allowing it to learn and perform tasks without direct user intervention.
The system utilizes the GPT-6 Astra model and can assist with scheduling, website development, application testing, and note editing. The key differentiator of "dots" is its "active exploration" capability: the assistant can independently seek opportunities to help by analyzing incoming information and proposing solutions even before the user assigns a task. This breaks the conventional model where AI only reacts to direct commands.
"dots" integrates with existing applications via ChatGPT, allowing users to interact with them through text or voice. The system learns from interactions, adapting to the user's work habits and preferences. This means that over time, the assistant becomes increasingly personalized and effective, taking over routine tasks such as booking tickets or planning meetings.
Security and privacy are implemented through isolated cloud computers and customizable permissions. Users can control which applications are accessible to a "dot" and set rules for its actions. The system can also use saved passwords to access services without revealing them to the model.
"dots" will soon be available to ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium users, with the potential for expanded functionality and the addition of new agents in the future. This is a step towards creating truly proactive AI assistants that can take on a significant portion of the workload.
